Wish that We Were on Old Rocky Top…

31 Dec

IMG_1306_cropped_resized I am originally from Tennessee so today we couldn’t resist putting our sweetie in his TN Vols’ outfit even though he hasn’t yet been to Tennessee.  Alan and I are both homesick for our families and hope to introduce Colin to them soon.  We will still hold to the adoptive parenting advice we have been given:  Alan and I will feed, diaper, wash, comfort and hold Colin even around our families.  We know this will be hard for our family members but it is to help Colin to understand that we are his Mama and Papa and to aide in attachment.

He was great at the pediatrician’s office today.  It helped that I had requested he only see a female.  His skin seems to have mild eczema.  We will definitely get him tested for food allergies since I have read that sometimes those things go hand in hand.  We still feel like his skin is tons better than it was when he was in the orphanage.  Right now it has had a reaction to the Pampers we mistakenly tried to use.  Only hypoallergenic/fragrance free diapers or cloth diapers have worked so far on him.

He does have an ear infection in his left ear so we have started a round of antibiotics.  We are also going to have another test run on him.  We need a couple more diaper samples for this test.  Yuckeroo!  (I doubt that is a word but just thinking of the lab technicians’ work is enough to gross me out!)  Hopefully, the test will not find any problem but we still will feel better checking it out.

He had a hard time getting calm and ready to sleep tonight.  It is frustrating when he fights sleep.  Usually, he is very ready to sleep at bed time but tonight he wanted to keep playing and not have quiet time.  Maybe he wanted to see the New Year in 🙂  Alan and I will be too tired to stay up until midnight this year.  We watched an episode of a favorite TV show we missed while in Russia and enjoyed some Graeter’s ice cream.  It was a treat to have Graeter’s ice cream after so long!

How blessed we are to start this new year, 2009, with Colin at home with us!  We look forward to loving him and watching him grow this year!

Thanks for stopping by,

Heather, Thanks for these. I do think Tennessee orange becomes Colin! Undoubtedly, these are the sweetest photos of all. He is beaming! I can tell his skin is so much better! Whatever you and Alan are doing is certainly working. His face shows it all. Your family in TN is anxious to see all of you too. Cannot wait to watch Colin play, eat and just be a normal toddler. All our love and wishes for a new year filled with new memories to treasure for a lifetime.

These are definitely the BEST photos yet!! And not just because he is supporting a VOLS sweatshirt ( although that does help). I agree with Mom that he is glowing. Can’t wait to see see him in person. You be sure to let us know when we can!! Love ya’ll!!
