Almost Out of Here…

23 Dec

Today (Tuesday) we have been working on packing up our bags for our trip home to the U.S. scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.  Colin watched some of his Baby Signing Time Video while Papa showered.  We have been working on learning the sign for “more.”  We are trying to teach him some American Sign Language to help bridge the communication problems we are dealing with since he is a toddler and since he has grown up knowing Russian (not English).  We don’t recognize much of what he says.  It mostly sounds like babbling.  We can make out “Papa” (which he does seem to associate with Alan) and “Mama” (which we are not sure he totally associates with me) and what sounds like his attempt at his name.

We put him down for his nap on schedule today and are hoping he will sleep his full three hours.  We know that about 5:10 a.m. Eastern Standard Time Zone (and 1:10 p.m. in Moscow) we will be getting ready to board the plane so it will kind of crazy in the airport.  Please pray that he will not be fussy on the trip and that he will feel safe and that we can keep him content on the long plane ride.  We are also praying that there will not be many people on the flight.  We were told we could request a bulkhead and bassinet for Aeroflot (it did not work last time) and that we could do it for Delta, too.  We will try again tomorrow.

We played some Christmas music while we tried to pack bags today.  Alan and I are so ready to get back to America.  Please pray for our stamina and patience as we embark on this big trip tomorrow.  Please also pray that we have no problems with getting Colin out of this country.  There are no concerns specific to us to mention; we have heard that there has been some negativity towards adoptive parents right now (due to a recent court ruling in U.S.).

I have been hesitant to put up identifying photos of Colin here until we are back in the U.S. so get ready for more photos coming soon here!  If not 12/24 then 12/25, we will put up some of our photos of our cutie for you to enjoy.  We are so thankful that this journey is almost over.  We know that we will face many challenges as parents but we trust that God will give us the wisdom and strength we need to be the parents He has called us to be for our precious boy.

Thanks so much for all the prayers and encouragement as we prepare for this big trip home!

Heather, Alan & Colin

You are, hopefully, in flight now. We are thinking of you and praying for you. What an incredible Christmas! Mary and Joseph were travelers and strangers when they brought their son into the world, too. May God send you shepherds, wise men, and more than a few angels today!
