I think and talk a lot about waiting.  It is a recurring theme in my life, I suppose.  “Waits” can strengthen our faith in God, like weights can strengthen our muscles.  This waiting time God has given us during the past year (and the year before that…) has strengthened our faith in God.  We continue to pray that God will be glorified in how He provides for our adoption of Colin.  When He turned our hearts to adopting a child from Russia, the paperwork and costs standing between us and our child seemed insurmountable if we looked at them through “human eyes.”  Through the eyes of faith (God’s eyes), the obstacles between us and our son are “opportunities”for Him to reveal Himself.  And God has been faithful to reveal Himself in the past year, and we believe He will continue to do so in the days ahead.

God has provided over $21,000 in the past year through the gifts of friends, family members, and strangers.  Through Shaohannah’s Hope, we will be given $3000…Through Pathways for Little Feet, we will be given $7500 no-interest loan…Whoah!  That is over $31,000!  That is more than the salary I made in my previous career as a museum director…It is almost what I made in a single year as a teacher…

A friend of mine asked for us to share this update today so others can join us in thanking God for what He has done so far to bring us together a little boy without a family to take care of him…She also asked us to also share what we still lack.  We lack about $13,000-$19,000 for our adoption expenses at this time.  I am giving a range because what we have learned in this journey is that there is no way to calculate the exact costs involved in adoption.  This is an estimate based on what other families have spent in the past year for their adoptions and the costs of travel and accomodations will be dependent on how much notice we have for travel and what time of year we travel.

If you feel led to give towards our remaining adoption expenses, there are a few different ways to help.

  1. Pray!
  2. You can still make tax-deductible donations to our adoption grant/fund at Lifesong (see the previous post on how to do this). (Through Sept. 30th).
  3. You can donate Marriott Rewards which could help us to save money with the cost of staying 5-9 days in Moscow on trip two. (Contact us if you are interested in this).
  4. You can establish a memorial fund through LegacyChild (you could then choose our family as the family to be helped): http://www.legacychild.org/create.html.  Jason Kovacs is the contact there and he can give you information on how this works. Then when we pay our interest-free loan back you can choose another family to benefit from your gift…and another…and so on…Jason can be reached at 888.775.3422.
  5. You can make a donation to the ABBA Fund and indicate your preference is that your gift be used towards an interest-free loan (this is not the loan through Pathways for Little Feet). Jason Kovacs is the contact for this option, too.
  6. Give a donation directly to our adoption fund through PayPal (see link to the right of this posting).
  7. Mail a check directly to us.  I will post Alan’s work address rather than our home address for now: Alan Brandt, Classical 90.5 WUOL, Louisville Public Media, 619 S. Fourth Street
    Louisville, KY 40202.
  8. I think it might also be possible to donate SkyMiles or Frequent Flyer Miles.  I think that it would have to be a signficant number of miles to make it worthwhile based on what a family told me who did this a few months ago.  Contact us if you are interested in exploring this possibility.
  9. Buy children’s books through our e-show fundraiser (link is at right).  When you buy them through that link, we get a percentage of the sales.

Thank you for stopping by!  We hope you will join us in thanking God today for how He has provided for us so far in our adoption of our little one.

God bless,

    Hi Heather,
I think you are right that waits definitely make us stronger. It must be the most difficult wait to be in-between trips, after you have held your little one. I hope you hear the amazing news you are waiting for really soon.
    You are in my prayers…Teresa

It is so encouraging to see how God is providing for you to bring Colin home. Thanks for the advice. We will be completing the paperwork for the agencies you recommended. Don and I are praying you get your petition soon. God Bless, Elizabeth
