Final Yard Sale Results…

13 Sep

Our grand total for the two-day yard sale is $638.43!  We had more people stop by on Friday than on Saturday.  This is our third (I think…) attempt at a yard sale in the past year, and we are tuckered out when it comes to yard sales.  We are donating the rest of the items to Goodwill.

We still have the concessions at church tonight.  We are splitting the revenue so I don’t think we will do as well as we did at the yard sale.  We’ll see what God has in store for us 🙂

No Petition to Court has been given to the family who went about 1 month before we went to meet our little boy.  Every day that goes by with them not getting their Petition means it is more likely they will travel back in November than October, since court dates usually follow Petitions by about 1 month.  I’m praying that they will receive their Petition this coming week.  They last saw their little girl over 3 months ago.

I dread being able to say that it has been over 3 months since we’ve seen Colin.  I’m going to check with the agency to see if anything has changed with when we can expect to receive our Petition.  When Alan talked to our coordinator, she acted like we would get to return this year.  This continues to be a prayer concern so we appreciate any prayers you are willing to say on our behalf.  We are praying that we will be able to get in and out of Russia before they take time off (starting about January 7th) for New Year’s.

Next week is a very exciting week for one of my friends I’ve met through our agency.  Julie & Josh are going to meet the little boy they have been matched with in the same region where our little boy lives.  Another couple, Michele and David, are also going to meet the little boy they have been matched with very soon.  It is wonderful to see how God is working in families to bring them together with their little ones!

We are getting closer to unveiling photos of Colin’s room.  Alan still needs to finish his series of paintings.  We also are writing Colin’s name on the wall above his crib.  We’d love a hanging book rack but may just find a basket to serve as his book basket by our rocking chair.  I am getting so excited about being able to read tons of books with Colin!  We also are getting excited about watching him learn and grow.

Admittedly we are not thrilled about diapers.  Alan has never changed one, and I don’t think I have changed one since college.  We are trying to develop a game plan for avoiding “blow-outs” in Russia, particularly on the long airplane trips.  Call it “Operation No Blow-Outs” or “ONBO” for short.  Just kidding about the name…Alan and I haven’t actually named this plan but maybe it deserves a name or code.  We are investigating cloth diapers and may take a few of them with us with disposable inserts to use on the plane.  We will have to use disposable diapers while in Russia most of the time because of the need for convenience (and since we can buy them in-country).  We are investigating the possibility of using cloth when home so there is still much research to be done on this topic!

Thanks for stopping by,

Heather

Yea, for your garage sale! I can’t wait to see his room!
All we have left to do is pack! I am tired, but so excited! I’ll call when we get back and somewhat rested.

Great success on the garage sale!

I pray that ya’ll are able to return to see your son SOON!

I am looking forward to seeing pics of Colin’s room.

I am also interested in cloth diapering. You may want to check out g-diapers, they are very similar to disposable but eco friendly.

I am so looking forward to the post that reads “We are heading back to Russia and our son!”

congrats on the garage proceeds! that’s awesome!

While in Russia I highly recommend taking disposable diapers.
If you haven’t already, check out http://www.mother-ease.com. I highly recommend them.

We had the most traffic on fridays for our garage sales as well. I never would’ve guessed that would be the case.

So glad you made a good profit.

Can’t wait to see the room!

Maybe its different with boys, but I don’t think blowouts are as big a concern with older toddlers. Granted its been nearly 5 years since I had a little one, but as I remember, blowouts were more an issue with babies. Older kids tend to have more solid….

Okay, just trying to reassure you, but I CAN guarantee you that you would be best to go with disposables on an airplane. The last thing you want to have to deal with is potty all over you and Colin, right? Diaper changing is awkward at best on an airplane.

So excited that it is going well with the finances. I wondered if you can post what you’ve already received or need? I think it would be an awesome testimony for me and others!
