Number Crunching…And God’s Perspective…

4 Jul

Good news: We are hopeful that the little one we meet next week is the son God has chosen for us.

Bad news: Because of the short notice for our trip, our trip costs (and they could change for the worse) are putting our adoption costs OVER BUDGET by about $1793.00. That means that we now lack about $4000 to be able to pay the required foreign fee due between trip one and trip two…This is the minimum we need. We know that God can take care of this and exceed our minimum needs because we do believe we have a God who delights in the impossible. The maximum of cash we still lack as of today (to be debt free without loans or credit card expenses) is approximately $29,000.

Please join us in praying (to use the words of the pastor at the church where I grew up) ” that we would continue to see the impossible become possible in [our] situation.” We continue to pray that we might be given grant money. We also are planning on another yard sale in September and hopefully a fundraiser at our church in October.

I’m sorry if it troubles any of my readers to see the out-right remaining money projections/costs for our adoption, but I want to be forthright about this for other pre-adoptive families and also so every reader knows that this adoption is totally a God thing; we are not doing this in our strength or to our glory, but we are following God’s leading to our child in Russia, and we are doing it all through His provision of strength, wisdom, and finances.

Here’s what I think is a very relevant excerpt from my Streams in the Desert devotional from July 2nd:

” …This illustrates the way to pass through every barrier that blocks the road of service for God. Whether the barrier is a river, a mountain, or a gate, all a child of Jesus must do is head directly toward it. If it is a river, it will dry up as he comes near it, as long as he still forges ahead. If it is a mountain, it will be removed and “cast into the sea” (Mark 11:23), providing he approaches it with unflinching confidence.

Is some great barrier blocking your path of service right now? Then head straight for it, in the name of the Lord, and it will no longer be there.

We sit and weep in vain, while the voice of the Almighty tells us to never stop moving upward and onward. Let us advance boldly, whether it is dark and we can barely see the forest in front of us, or our road leads us through the mountain pass, where from any vantage point we can only see a few steps ahead.

Press on! And if necessary, like the ancient Israelites we will find a pillar of clouds and fire to lead the way on our journey through the wilderness. God will provide guides and inns along the road, and we will discover food, clothing, and friends at every stage of our journey…”

Thank you God for providing what we have needed so far for our adoption journey. We pray that you will continue to guide us step by step and that You will be glorified through your provision for us both spiritually and financially.

God bless,

Heather

Hi Heather, Congratulations on your referral!!- That is so exciting. I know exactly what you are feeling about how expensive the process is and how all the fees seem to keep going up. I keep praying too – I feel so strongly too that we are being led to our child in Russia.
You are in my prayers. Keep following your path and your little one will be with you!!

Heather, yes God will provide. I keep telling this to my husband. He is concerned that we might be matched and become parents before the end of the year. If this happens we will have to use some of our investments…but I always tell him that God has a plan, He will provide. It is in His hands.

Have a safe journey to Russia!
