I think I alluded to our agency’s suggestion that they hoped to register us in a region within a couple of months (as of April). We have heard that this is still the plan. If we are registered soon, we do know which region of Russia where we will be registered. However, we have been encouraged by our agency not to post the region’s name or identifying information on our adoption blog unless we make the blog private. For now, we will keep the blog open to the public and we will not post the name of the region when we know for sure we are registered. You are always welcome to email me with any questions.
We are excited about the possibility of being registered soon because that means we are getting closer to a referral of a child. Just to refresh my readers’ memories, we requested a child of either gender 0-18 months old. It would be extremely unusual if we received a girl referral based on the current lack of girls available in Russia for international adoption. So, as I think I’ve mentioned before, we are probably going to be referred a little boy. Otherwise, we will not know anything specific about him until we receive the referral. At that time, we will be able to consult with one or more international adoption doctors who will be qualified to help us make sense of our medical records, and if possible, let us know if we should try to request any additional information (which is not always available). The doctor(s) will let us know if there are moderate health risks, severe health risks or low health risks in adopting the referred child. If we feel led to not accept the referral, my understanding is that we will have to submit a letter explaining why, and we will have to wait for another referral. It is unclear how long we would have to wait if we did not accept our first referral.
What are our current prayers?
- We are asking for prayers that God will make it overwhelmingly clear whether or not our first referral is in fact the child He has chosen for us.
- We are also praying for patience and faith as we trust in God’s financial provision for the adoption. We currently lack $22,409-$27,234 (this projection could change when we are registered in the region). Of that amount, $17,000 is for foreign fees/orphanage fees.
- Please pray that we will be able to quickly gather the documents that our agency has requested we have ready for our first trip. Pray especially that we will be able to quickly obtain any documents required from our home study agency.
We are so thankful that God has provided us with what we have needed up to this point in the adoption journey. We are celebrating the news that we are closer to meeting our child and pray that God will be glorified as we near the next chapter of our child’s adoption story.
Thanks for stopping by,
